The future of tech
Now, in this new section of Venture Street I want to explore random business ideas that come to my mind on a day to day basis. Some of them might be good and some of them might be sh*t, but it’s a way to let my entrepreneurial creativity loose and might lead to some interesting discussions.
Today I wanted to talk about an idea that has been on my mind for around one year. As many entrepreneurs, I’m constantly looking for problems to solve or thinking about how much a business is selling, their marketing strategy, value proposal, etc.
It so happens that last Christmas I was out shopping for some presents with my family and I was very very very bored. You can imagine how that is…
Well, my mind started racing and thinking about startups (nothing strange so far), and that’s when 💡boom! “I’ve got a billion dollar idea!” So I instantly reach out to my sister’s boyfriend, who was as bored as myself and start pitching the idea to him.
“Hey Santino! Listen to this idea!:
Ok, so do you realize everybody wants to create wealth at some degree? Well, not everybody is thinking about building companies, but everybody wants to have a long lasting income, something that they receive even after having retired right?
I mean, most people invest some times in the stock market, or try buying real estate and renting it and many people succeed doing both or creating long lasting companies that give out dividends but its definitely super hard.
And, do you realize how hard it’s for companies to hire great people and then retain the talent?”
So at this point Santino is a little confused, because he’s been the whole morning between my sister shopping and now me shouting some crazy ideas at him. But I continue:
"How come it’s only mainstream for startups or public companies to give stock to their employees? Imagine a world where you can build financial freedom by working at a company. In a very simple approach the company could create stocks for their employees and give them out as compensation periodically or with objective acomplishments.
This could solve both problems!
- First, employees could earn stocks of the company they work for, and retain them long term, reaching a point where they could have enough stocks to receive sufficient dividends to support their living, even when not working at the company anymore.
- Second, companies could hire and retain great talent but also have more motivated teams that growt the company faster!”
At this point, Santino’s face is changing expression and you can see he is buying into the idea. Not only that, he starts adding to it some color:
“Yes, and you could also create a market to trade your stocks with your employer for other benefits like bonus or vacations. Or you could also trade them for other private companies if you were to switch jobs!! Also, all the best companies would offer this and people would start to not want to work at companies that don’t give out stock.
We could build a software to manage the whole process, from creation of the stocks with their own particular conditions, the payment of the dividends and the whole exchange market!”
“How come this is not a reality? Why hasn’t someone built this yet? The market for this solution is huge! Literally a billion dollar business idea”
TO BE CONTINUED…
This is it for todays idea! Let me know what you think and please comment!! Let’s create a discussion around this idea!
Peace!!
