Hey everyone! I hope you had a great week! This time I wanted to talk about the last tech advance that has blown my mind and I can’t wait to try. But first, one of my friend’s favorite songs:
Well as maybe some of you remember, a couple of months ago I was writing about how after having spent billions of dollars on building metaverse technologies, the market was punishing Meta with a lack of trust in the metaverse becoming a mainstream reality.
On top of that, ChatGPT created a new hype for AI, making the metaverse and AR/VR technologies less hot than the previous years.
It wasn’t clear if the world was effectively moving towards the metaverse or not…
However, later this year we were astonished and got excited again with the metaverse thanks this time to Apple, that had been quietly creating its own VR goggles called Vision Pro. I can only say these things are amazing…
Press play:
Well, after the release of the Apple Vision Pro it was clear Mark Zuckerberg was not wrong about the metaverse and that the world is definitely moving towards the metaverse.
But, how was it possible that the first release of Meta was, to say the least a great disappointment, that showed avatars that looked like 5 year old drawings?
Well, after all this time trashing Mark and Meta, we finally get a glimpse of the future they are trying to build and it definitely looks exciting.
Mark Zuckerberg and Lex Fridman decided to host the world’s first podcast on the metaverse. And this is the result: mindblowing
You can find the full interview here
The way it basically works is:
You first create a photo realistic avatar of yourself with a technology that basically scans your features and then the sensors in the Oculus Rift (Meta’s VR headset) scan your expressions in real time and animates the avatar that you’ve created before. This creates a photorealistic image of your face that moves and expresses exactly like you do, creating the illusion of seeing a 3d video in real time. For me, this has to be the future of communication.
Ok, but what does this mean for business? (show me the money!)
Well, we are all going to use this technology and create avatars of ourselves in the metaverse, both for professional purposes and for social purposes and gaming.
But, what happens to brands in the metaverse? Well, people are going to keep getting brands to use as social currency. A Louis Vuitton is not expensive because is more useful than another purse, it’s expensive because it shows a level of wealth, a style and being part of a tribe. So, when more people see you in the metaverse than in real life, why wouldn’t you buy a Digital Louis Vuitton purse for your avatar?
This is were the world is going and were the money is at!
Ok, if you don’t believe me, just check how like top startups like Union Avatars are already helping brands like Teresa Helbig land in the metaverse 👇
It’s only a bit of time until we are all buying digital clothes and more… What do you think? Please comment and subscribe if you enjoyed it!
Cheers!!
