#1 From Lawyer to Venture Capital: My Journey So Far
Hey there! I'm Guillermo, a new VC associate at GoHub Ventures and on Venture Street, I'm taking you along for the ride as I share my journey, the startups we're investing in, and the lessons I'm learning. It's an inside look at the VC world, come join me!
Hello everyone,
I started my career as a lawyer, but I soon realized that my true passion was in entrepreneurship. I left my job to build my own startup, which was an incredible learning experience. I learned about many things such as product development, marketing, fundraising, and most importantly, about the importance of perseverance and the power of a strong team.
Although it was exciting, it was also tough at times. I faced many challenges, and unfortunately, my startup didn't work out. I found myself at a crossroads, not knowing what to do next. After much reflection, I decided to invest all my remaining money into an MBA at IE Business School. This decision was one of the best I've ever made as it gave me a new perspective on life and opened up many new opportunities for me.
Now, as an investment associate at GoHub Ventures, I have the privilege of working with some of the best minds in the venture capital industry. In my three weeks on the job, I've already learned so much and have been constantly impressed by the innovation and creativity of the startups we work with.
One of my key takeaways from my experiences is the value of networking and building relationships. In both the venture capital and startup communities, connections can make all the difference. That's why I've decided to start this newsletter, Venture Street.
The newsletter is for:
entrepreneurs that want to know more about venture capital and growing businesses,
professionals that want to break into venture capital or learn more about investing in venture, and
venture capital professionals that want to connect with other members of the community and see the ecosystem through another lens.
I will share my experiences and insights as a new investment associate, as well as the challenges and lessons I've learned along the way. I will also share stories of the startups and entrepreneurs we work with at GoHub Ventures and the exciting new technologies and business models they are developing.
It's worth noting that this newsletter is based on my personal experiences and is not meant to be investment advice nor professional work. It's a way to share my journey and connect with others in the venture capital and startup communities.
I hope you will join me on this journey and I look forward to connecting with you all.
Best, Guillermo Flor
